Printable Wall Art Sizes: A Guide to Standard US Frame Sizes

Printable wall art is the fastest way to refresh a room, but the frame you have decides which file you print. This guide covers the sizes sold at most US and Canadian stores.

Ratios matter more than sizes

Every frame belongs to an aspect ratio. Print a file made for the same ratio and nothing gets cropped.

Printing at home

• Use US Letter (8.5 x 11 in) paper for anything up to 8x10.
• Choose matte photo paper or 65 to 110 lb cardstock.
• In the print dialog, set scaling to 100% or Actual size, not "Fit to page".

Printing at a print shop

For anything larger than 8x10, a local print shop or an online photo lab gives better color. Upload the highest-resolution file and pick the size that matches the ratio above.

Tips for a gallery wall

Mix two or three ratios at most, keep 2 to 3 in (5 to 7.5 cm) between frames, and hang the center of the group about 57 in (145 cm) from the floor.
