How to Upload a Free SVG to Cricut Design Space (Step by Step)
By Makerloom Studio ·

Cut files are the heart of most Cricut projects, and every SVG on Makerloom is free to download. Here is how to get one from your downloads folder onto your cutting mat.
1. Download the file
Open any design and choose Download free. Most cut files come as an SVG for Cricut and Silhouette Designer Edition, plus a PNG for print-then-cut. If the download is a ZIP, unzip it first: on Windows, right-click and choose Extract All; on a Mac, double-click the file.
2. Upload it to Design Space
- Open Cricut Design Space and start a New Project.
- Choose Upload in the left panel, then Upload Image.
- Select Browse and pick the
.svgfile. - Name it, add a few tags so you can find it later, and choose Upload.
The design appears in your Recent Uploads. Select it and choose Add to Canvas.
3. Size it for your project
Common sizes for US projects:
| Project | Typical width |
|---|---|
| Adult T-shirt front | 10 to 11 in (25 to 28 cm) |
| Youth T-shirt | 7 to 9 in (18 to 23 cm) |
| Tumbler wrap decal | 3 to 4 in (7.5 to 10 cm) |
| 12 x 12 in wood sign | 10 in (25 cm) |
Lock the proportions (the padlock icon) before you resize so the design doesn't stretch.
4. Attach, then cut
If a design has several pieces in one color, select them all and choose Attach so they cut exactly where you placed them. For iron-on vinyl, turn on Mirror for every mat before you cut.
Uploading on iPhone, iPad or Android
Save the SVG to the Files app (iOS) or your Downloads folder (Android), then in the Design Space app choose Upload > Browse Files. ZIP files must be unzipped in the Files app first.
